The theft occurred at St Augustine's Church in Edgbaston, Birmingham, on June 10.
A week later, the stolen item was discovered at a scrap yard in the Black Country and subsequently returned to the church.
West Midlands Police confirmed the man is currently in custody. The lectern, dating back to the church's inception in 1868, is as old as the building itself.
In response, church officials have implemented a motion sensor and other security measures to prevent future thefts.
