Manhole covers, roofing and gates stolen in Cumbria as rise in metal theft hits businesses hard


Metal thieves struck more than 150 times in Cumbria last year in a bid to make fast cash.


Theft of metal including from railways, statues, church roofs, and cars is believed to cost the UK economy up to £1 billion each year. Last year in Cumbria alone, criminals stole metal on 152 occasions - the equivalent of three thefts each week.
